Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Psalm 66:1-2. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the lands! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Psalm 100:1-2. Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. (Martin Luther) These words recorded in the Psalms and spoken by Martin Luther, still hold true today. St. John’s has had a long history of choirs and we continue in our Music Ministry to welcome new members to all our choirs.
Hand-Bell Choir
The hand-bell choir presently consists of youth from junior high school through college. The choir enhances worship with hand-bell and hand-chimes. They rehearse at 11:40 a.m. every Sunday and are in session from September - Easter Sunday. They play each month and highlight our Easter and Christmas Eve service. Music Director, Thomas Sax, Assisting Handbell Director, Kyle Clandorf.
THE ADULT CHOIR
The adult choir meets every Friday afternoon at the church from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The adult choir sings at worship two to three times a month. Currently we have a SATB choir, and are always searching for more members. Once again, reading music is not required. Our adult choir has sung many years together and harmonize beautifully. Along with all the feast days during the church year, the adult choir adds glorious music to special services such as Christ the King Sunday and to those receiving First Holy Communion and Confirmation. It wouldn’t be a holiday if our choir didn’t perform one of their Choir Anthems. All our choirs are very dedicated and committed. For some people it is difficult if not impossible to make a full time commitment due to various reasons. That’s okay too, you can make a partial commitment to our choirs, or you may just choose to rehearse with us during special holidays. The adult choir is like a family to one another and each year we gather together for a celebration during the Christmas season and at the end of the choir year.
Let us remember Ephesians 5:19-20 which tells us to, address one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.
